How quickly can I be seen, and when can I get my results?
We offer same-day, next-day, evening, and weekend appointments. The radiologist’s interpretation of your images will be sent to your referring provider within 24-48 hours of your exam.
How much will my exam cost?
Imaging costs can vary greatly based on whether you receive care at a hospital, hospital outpatient facility, or an independent outpatient facility. Durham Diagnostic Imaging is an independent outpatient facility. Our rates are 40-60% less than area hospitals and competitive with other independent outpatient imaging centers. We accept most insurance plans, have competitive self-pay rates, and offer payment plans.
You will receive a single, all-inclusive bill that covers your radiology test and interpretation of the exam. At the hospital, these are billed separately.
Is a signed MRI or CT order valid at any radiology facility?
A signed order is valid everywhere. We accept all physician orders, including those written on hospital order forms or prescription pads. All diagnostic imaging procedures must be recommended by your physician and require a signed order. The only exception to this requirement is for screening mammograms.
Will your office verify that my insurance covers the exam before my appointment?
Yes, we will. Exams will not be performed without prior authorization from your insurance company. We provide all patients with a good-faith estimate that includes individual patient details based on your insurance coverage and the test being performed. This estimate takes into account your insurance plan, deductible, and copay or coinsurance.
Will I need to change clothes for my exam?
Depending on the exam, you may be asked to change into scrubs and remove jewelry or metal objects. This is done to ensure your safety and to avoid interference with the imaging process.
Is there anything else I need to take off?
You may be asked to remove jewelry, piercings, and other metal items that can interfere with the imaging process or present safety concerns.
Will my provider be able to see the actual image(s) from my exam, and how do I know you have good image quality?
Providers access patient images online, and images can be provided on CD when needed.
Our equipment is accredited by the American College of Radiology, and we partner with community-based radiologists to interpret reports quickly and accurately. This also means our radiologists can easily consult with your provider, if needed.
Do you accept walk-ins?
We do not accept walk-ins. If you have an urgent need for testing, call 919.471.4840 or 919.544.7199, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Is payment expected at time of service?
Yes. Payment is expected at the time of testing, and there are several ways to pay. Details are covered in the “Ways to Pay” section of this site, and arrangements can be made if payment is not possible. Financial assistance may also be available. Feel free to call ahead to 877.442.2989 with payment questions or ask when you check in for your appointment.
I received an odd email from you. Is it legit?

Viewing the contents of an encrypted message will take an extra step, but it’s the safest way to protect your personal information. Please call the center if you have questions.
